One bedroom opening in beautiful apartment in heart of Porter Square. All residents friendly, responsible, fun and geeky! Rent ranges from $650/month to $900/month based on bedroom size, and is up for negotiation. Move-in date some time between July 1 and September 1, possibly with some flexibility if that's helpful! Many of you likely already know this, but . . .

Is anyone interested in two tickets to the Jonathan Coulton concert this Friday night at the Paradise? A friend of mine can no longer go due to circumstances beyond her control. The tickets will go to waste otherwise, so you might be able to get in on this for less than you normally would!

(I'll also be there, if'n that's of interest.) Thanks!

Let me know and I'll put you in touch with her.

Edit: [livejournal.com profile] ab3nd has found a subletter. Thanks!

Are you looking for an apartment, or know someone who is?

Is cost-effectiveness important to you? Say, $500 a month without utility split?

Are you looking for ease to public transit, like right on the corner of a frequently running bus line?

Would you enjoy living with a friendly, open-minded, introverted geek?

If so, I have your apartment!

My boyfriend [livejournal.com profile] ab3nd is looking for a housemate to take the place of the grad school/lab subletter as of 2/5 (or as close to that as possible). His place is pretty cool too; it's in Belmont a bit past BCOS for those who know it, right at the corner of a very regularly running bus line. If I was available and he were similarly inclined, I'd consider the space!

Here's a chunk from his Craigslist ad. If you're interested, comment here and I'll put you two in touch. (You can also try to contact him via LJ, but I would not consider that a reliable method.)

Craigslist listing below! )

As I may have mentioned elsewhere, I have regularly been receiving alerts about possible links to malware on my friends page. Malware from [sweepstakes*and*contests*info(dot)com, asterisks added to not replicate the original address], to be specific. This time it appeared right at the top, and with a little finagling, I was able to see who has posted since I last checked and didn't receive the malware alert on that page. Those users/journals are:

[livejournal.com profile] davis_square (posts by by [livejournal.com profile] miss_chance and [livejournal.com profile] closetalker11)
[livejournal.com profile] mindways (whose posts I've seen recently and don't seem to be triggering the alert, so likely not him)
[livejournal.com profile] _dragonwolf_
[livejournal.com profile] akiko
[livejournal.com profile] audioboy
[livejournal.com profile] drwex

At present, my suspicion is that it's the Davis Square LJ or, more likely, one of the two posters on it. I'm pretty sure I've seen posts from DragonWolf and AudioBoy without issue, and less sure about Dr. Wex and Akiko.

Just FYI.

Huzzah, the Harvard Square Lush has the new winter products! I picked up one of each of the new products (in the class of products I tend to buy - bath bombs and bubble bars) to try out. Hopefully, reviews to follow some time in the near future.

Addendum: Make that most of the new products. I missed Christmas Eve, I just noticed, and Candy Mountain if I consider that sufficiently different from a prior release. More for later!

New Products
Golden Wonder
The Melting Snowman
Three Gold Rings*

* - I may try this one tomorrow!

As some of you know, I've been looking for a job. Given the small, interlocking Dunbar's numbers that comprise the Boston geek community, there's a chance that you may know of one. I thought I'd send up a flare and let people know I'm still looking. Assistance would be appreciated, and possibly rewarded with socializing and/or tasty food!

My education (Masters level) is in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, though I have not worked in that field for several years. Most of my work experience is in administration, junior-level ad operations, and junior-level production assistance. I could potentially work in some areas of tech support.

My preferred work environments include: the tech sector (especially startups), education (especially university/higher education), and non-profit. I've also greatly enjoyed working in the video game industry. Mostly, my preferred environments have to do with working with intellectually curious and similarly aligned coworkers.

While I welcome comments here to the effect, "I know of something; I'll e-mail you!" I'd prefer the details about a job not posted here directly to avoid comment length. The best e-mail to reach me at regarding job offers or other vocational questions is my professional GMail account; my username is my last name followed by the first letter of my first name.

Thanks in advance!

Do you have several years of programming and games industry experience*? Are you savvy in C++ and Xcode? Would you like to have a solid hand in guiding a small, award-winning games studio to further success? If so, you may be the Senior Engineer my delightful employer, Subatomic Studios, is looking for. Click the link below for more information.

My wonderful boyfriend [livejournal.com profile] ab3nd is losing his spiffy housemate some time in the next couple of months (the bedroom will be available between January 1, February 1 and March 1). Rent is $450, not counting utilities. The landlord is pretty chill and understanding, from what I know. The apartment is in Belmont, but pretty conveniently located therein. No pets, sadly, and caution in the communal environment if you spend a lot of time around cats; I'm very allergic.

A thing to note, though I'm not altogether sure of this: Ab3nd is a major introvert. I'm pretty sure he's not looking for someone who's planning on having big social gatherings at the apartment a lot of the time.

More information below the link. Come live with my boyfriend! He's awesome.

(Signal boosting welcome. The more responses to choose from, the better.)

Details on the apartment. )

Hello, all!

As most of you (may) know by now, I'll be out of the country from the evening of Wednesday, July 7 through most of Tuesday, July 20. What you might not know is that I will be almost completely out of phone contact during that time. (I'll be trying out what this blog suggests regarding using your iPhone as an iPod Touch with the reasonable number of free WiFi spots in London.) While contacting me over e-mail (or possibly direct message over Twitter, provided I see it) is much more reliable, I will have a system in place for phone calls if need be.

Inbound: Google Voice
If you need to get in touch with me during that time, call my Google Voice number. If you don't already have this number, call my cellphone and my extended absence greeting will tell you it. Do not leave a message on my cellphone during this time as I will not listen to it. Let me reiterate this. I will not be listening to my cellphone voicemail while I am out of the country. I will, however, be using my WiFi access to read the transcriptions of my Google voicemail messages, and listen to them when I can. Please expect a 24 hour turnaround on voicemail at best.

Outbound: Google Voice or Skype
If you need me to call you (family emergency, complicated personal thing that just can't wait, etc.) I will be trying out Skype or Google Voice for this purpose, depending on whichever is cheaper. I still need to look in to that. If at all possible, though, e-mail/IM/DM is best for contact while overseas.

Finally . . . I have a spotty and very expensive text plan that automatically charges me when I receive one, if I get it at all. I'm not sure it won't count it as an international call off-plan if you send me one. Please don't do it.

So! To reiterate:

1. While overseas, please expect online contact rather than phone. E-mail, IM, direct message, Facebook . . . all ok.
2. If you need to call me, call my Google Voice number.
3. If I need to call you, I will call through Google Voice or Skype.
4. For the love of all that is holy, PLEASE don't send me texts. Seriously. Send e-mails or DMs instead.

Reinstalling my IM client didn't fix the problems I thought it would. In addition, my laptop has been having issues with the desktop mini-quitting and having to redraw the files and locations. I've trashed the prefs file and am starting over, so hopefully the problem is fixed.

If I haven't responded to an IM at all or a particular piece of information, please ping me again. I swear I'm not ignoring you. Thanks!
spiritchrysalis: (LainCurled)
Something seems to be up with my IM client on my laptop. I'm going to try to uninstall and reinstall it today, but if you've sent me an IM and I've not responded, that may be why. Hopefully that'll be resolved today.

(This may explain why I was becoming paranoid about having done something socially unpleasant . . . not everyone was getting my IMs!)

Addendum: I've reinstalled. IM on!

This was brought to my attention through [livejournal.com profile] jadasc. Thank you.

A recent LJ exploit, described here, may have changed the security of your topmost LJ post and released the e-mail address associated with this account to the attacker. LiveJournal seems to think it's pretty mild, all things considered, but you should check your post anyway.

It happened to me. Whee!
spiritchrysalis: (wanttodie)
For a moment, Twitter and LiveJournal were down, and Facebook wasn't letting me send Wall updates.

I thought to myself, "I should tell people! . . . oh . . . wait . . ."
spiritchrysalis: (ShadowGirls)
I have changed my default mood icon set for now, until I am able to relink my custom one.

That is all.

If everything goes well, our house will be switching from Comcast to RCN tomorrow afternoon. As of then, all e-mail that goes to my Comcast address won't reach me. The best address to reach me will be at GMail.

My friend [livejournal.com profile] riffling is an out-of-towner and hasn't found himself crash space yet. Anyone have bed or floor space for Intercon I? He's cool, a fun RPer and doesn't bite.

Messages to him, not me.

Thank you!

A quick heads-up for interested parties:

Paradise Rock Club in Boston (not Johnny D's!)

You can buy tickets as soon as now; I just bought two.

Are you an industrial designer that wants an intern? Do you work in a company that might want an industrial design intern? Do you just have contacts in the field? Or, heck, contacts in general that might pan out in that direction?

If so, I/we need your help! :)

We just found out today that [livejournal.com profile] numath needs an industrial design internship for the fall. He is a 2nd year year student (will be "pre-junior" as of the fall) at the University of Cincinnati in Industrial Design. He is experienced with Alias Maya, ZBrush, Alias StudioTools, Solidworks, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Poser, carpentry, and tailoring.

A link to his resume and portfolio can be found here. (This link is very slightly out of date and will be updated within a few days of this post.)

His school's internship requirements are as follows:
  • related to industrial design (the design of any physical product that isn't a building or clothing)
  • monetary compensation; the internship must be paid
  • a supervisor/boss overseeing his work
  • roughly twelve weeks experience between August 30 and January 5

If you have any leads at all, please forward them on to the e-mail address listed in his portfolio. If you pull this off, I am happy to take you out to dinner or something similarly shiny. Thank you, from he and I!
