For a variety of reasons, I've been looking for an alternative to [livejournal.com profile] polyamory for a while now. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] akiko, I'd like to put forth the idea of checking out [livejournal.com profile] polyamorous. The traffic is lower than the Polyamory community, which is actually better for me, and I know and trust the moderator.

I'm not suggesting you stop reading Polyamory, by any means. I'm just suggesting you come check out Polyamorous with me.

On December 29th, I want to go see the opening of Pan's Labyrinth. Yes, at midnight, if the theatres are playing that game.

Who's with me? This isn't a set commitment, more of a long-range date grab. I'd love to get 30+ fantasy fans in a theatre for this one.

And come on. It mentions Pan. And a labyrinth. There is no way on this green earth I'm missing it.

Is there any big, geeky thing I'm forgetting happening on Labor Day? I'm trying to decide if I should apply to work that holiday or not.

I believe I've mentioned this already, but in the event that I haven't, the biopsy finally worked. Dad doesn't have small cell cancer. This is incredibly good news, and increases his life expectancy and (still small) chance of remission.

He's also finally heard from the head of Fox Chase Cancer Center, one of the best treatment clinics in the United States. He's agreed to take him. I've heard that this doctor normally only takes the worst cases, but it seems Dad fits his profile for one of the populations he's studying; he's specifically looking into non-small cell cancer that metastasizes. So he gets to have one of the best in the field without having to be one of the worst cases in the field. That's wonderful.

In even better news, it seems as though Dad's energy is returning to him and his seizures / spasms are subsiding, though only a bit in each case. The specialists are using a different term to describe the spasming now, one that starts with the sound "tin," but I can't remember it offhand. He's finished his radiation therapy, and will start chemotherapy at Fox Chase or another excellent center in about two weeks. They're hoping this will be something of a nice break for him. At one place, he would start on the 26th, at the other, the 28th. We'll see how that goes.

Again, a big thank you to everyone who has been sending prayers, rituals and other wishes his way. Lets hope this is the first in many good signs in the future.

I am not completely sure what this is, but I think I want one.
